Marvellous Marine Vessels!

What is a Marine Vessel?

A marine vessel is an object that floats on water. Examples of marine vessels are:
· Ships
· Boats
· Canons
· Rafts

Ships are originally distinguished from boats. Ships were considered to be vessels which had at least one continuous water-tight deck extending from bow to stern. However, some modern designs for ships, and boats, have made that particular definition less accurate. Ships may be found on
lakes, seas, and rivers and they allow for a variety of activities, such as the transport of people or goods, fishing, entertainment, public safety, and warfare.

These are the parts of a ship.

The History of boats!!!

A boat is a watercraft of modest size designed to float or plane, to provide passage across water. Usually this water will be inland (lakes) or in protected coastal areas. However, boats such as the whaleboat were designed to be operated from a ship in an offshore environment. In naval terms, a boat is something small enough to be carried aboard another vessel (a ship). Strictly speaking and uniquely a submarine is a boat as defined by the Royal Navy. Boats have served as short distance transportation since early times. Circumstantial evidence, such as the early settlement of Australia over 40,000 years ago, suggests that boats have been used since very ancient times. The earliest boats have been predicted to be logboats.

Today, things have changed drastically. These boats are more modernized. They allow more things to be done with the boats. They are in different shapes and sizes depending on what you prefer. The boats now are better looking to people of the 21st Century.

What is a Cannoe?

A canoe (North American English) or Canadian canoe (British English) is a small narrow boat, typically human-powered, though it may also be powered by sails or small electric or gas motors. Canoes usually are pointed at both bow and stern and are normally open on top, but can be decked over (i.e. covered, similar to a kayak).
In its human-powered form, the canoe is propelled by the use of
paddles, usually by two people. Paddlers face in the direction of travel, either seated on supports in the hull, or kneeling directly upon the hull. Paddling can be contrasted with rowing, where the rowers usually face away from the direction of travel and use mounted oars (though a wide canoe can be fitted with oarlocks and rowed). Paddles may be single-bladed or double-bladed.

What is a Raft?

A Raft is a flat floating structure made of wooden planks, logs, barrels, or similar materials, used as a boat or anchored in the water as a dock or diving platform. or; an inflatable flat-bottomed rubber or plastic boat used for drifting along on a river, or an inflatable rectangular mat used for surfing or lounging in the water.

My Boat!

The boat we made as our DT project this term was very successful. the hull we chose was a Deep-V hull - V-hulls are designed to operate at high speeds and to cut through rough water, which provides a smoother ride than flat-bottomed or round hull boats. V-hulls are not as efficient as flat or round bottomed boats, and need larger engines to move at similar speeds. The vast majority of the boats sold today have a variety of the v-hull.

When the boat was ready, we tested it and it was able to float properly!
